September 23, 2006Thoughts upon a position: 2. Queen or Knight?Oh! What a day! And a long expected one. I think that all of you are stuck in front of your computer screens, so I guess that the time is right to post another interesting position. If you are able to recognize the game I am referring to, then I believe that this article is about to receive many comments from PlayChess.de viewers. Actually there are many questions that arise from the position. White is in check. (Yes he is!) What’s the best way to recapture? Do you have any other comments about white and black? Do you have any idea which army has more chances to win? Any preference, may be?
Have fun… Important notice

Is there anything wrong with KbxB? At least, after 34 seconds thinking this is my choice. Now, I wanna know what´s right, what´s wrong, what I saw, what I didn´t, what I should have seen, etc. Regards. Posted by: Sobral at September 23, 2006 03:35 PMThe best choice is Kbxd2. Dont is the knight of f3 because the d4. The Queen is atacking c4 and the knight is in development. Sorry, because i don't speak english very well. Thanks. Posted by: Amauri at September 23, 2006 06:53 PMI don't know much about d4 openings, so I tried to look up this position. But "even" the PlayChess variant explorer does not find this game. After Nbxd2 the advantage is clearly on the White side, I think (development, center). Even if Black has no real weaknesses (yet), I cannot imagine that a modern master would like to have the black side. Dear Thomas, Come on guys! Wake up! Posted by: Michalis Kaloumenos at September 24, 2006 01:05 PMDear chessfriends, this is the actual game of Topalov vs. Kramnik in Elista. Dear chessfriends, sorry for my mistake. It's the first game and Kramnik plays with white. He took with the Queen. Posted by: Caissa at September 24, 2006 03:07 PMThanks Josef, someone had to put this conversation back to the right track. Since the Prague agreement (that's what happened in 2002) I've been waiting for the day that there is only one undisputed world champion. So, this day arrives next month and I am very happy. Now, please, write your comments about White and Black, that is Kramnik and Topalov. Do you want a new 15th World Champion, or you prefer Kramnik? Please, post your comments... Posted by: Michalis Kaloumenos at September 24, 2006 03:33 PMNo doubt, I prefer Topalov. He is the one who beat Kasparov recently, he is the one who really fights to win, who takes risks. But I am really surprised that Topolov plays the black pieces here. Obviously, this proves that I am a mere patzer without much understanding of chess... Posted by: Thomas Stahl at September 25, 2006 12:48 PMOkay I would keep the queens on the board an castle as soons as I can. I am sure I am missing stuff for black but I am an attcking player always. Posted by: PhilipKaveny at September 25, 2006 01:10 PMI like Topalov. He is a real fighter. I used to be a big Kramnik fan but he seemed to lose his way after beating Kasparov. If white takes with the knight, cannot Black play ..b5? Eg 8..(or whatever move it is) b5 9 Ne5 Nd5, an idea whic comes up in the Catalan a lot. Posted by: Catperson at September 25, 2006 03:35 PM |
